A Minna magistrates’ court on Friday remanded a 70-year-old man, Udo Udo, in prison custody for allegedly raping two girls.

The accused was arraigned on a count of rape, an offence contrary to Section 283 of the penal code.

Ahmed Ali, the police prosecutor, told the court that a member of a vigilance group attached to the emir’s palace in Suleja arrested and brought the accused to the police station on October 11.

He said the accused, a resident of Angwan Gwari, Suleja, was alleged to have forcefully had carnal knowledge of the two girls.

Ali also said the accused had confessed to committing the crime during police investigation.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge, after which the prosecutor asked for an adjournment to enable the police conclude investigations.

In her ruling, Sa’adatu Gambo, the magistrate, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody pending the outcome of investigations.

She adjourned the case till November 13 for further hearing.
