The new entry visa system of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will attract exceptional talent into the country, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the prime minister, has said.

Al Maktoum, who is also the emir of Dubai and vice president, announced the approval of the new entry visa system on Twitter.

He wrote: “Today I chaired a cabinet meeting at which we agreed on a new entry visa system that focuses on attracting exceptional talent. The new system aims to attract entrepreneurs, pioneers and talented minds in the medical, scientific, research, IT and intellectual sectors.

“Future prosperity lies in the creative minds of our people; investing in people is an investment in our economy and success. The UAE is a country of vast opportunity; we aim to provide a tolerant environment that can nurture potential and support outstanding talent.”

In 2016, the government, through the general directorate of residency and foreigners affairs in Dubai (GDRFA), introduced the UAE vision system, which was aimed at easing visa and residency transactions.

With the UAE vision system, residents were no longer required to visit the GDRFA office or any of its external branches to renew or apply for visas. Instead, all transactions could be done at approved typing centres.

This announcement comes after Donald Trump, president of United States, placed a 90-day ban on seven Muslim countries and cut back on refugee acceptance.

The countries affected are Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. However, a court ruling has temporarily blocked the immigration order from being enforced.

The justice department filed an appeal against the ruling on Saturday but the emergency appeal was denied by an appeal court in San Fransisco.
