Thousands of Nigerians have called for Venita Akpofure‘s disqualification from the Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) All Stars reality show over her controversial remarks about the Tiv people.

The Tiv people constitute the fourth largest ethnic group in Nigeria, primarily residing in the Benue and Taraba state regions.

Recently, during a conversation with a fellow housemate, Akpofure alleged that Tiv men offer their wives to guests

“In the Tiv tribe, they give their wives to their guests,” she said.

Her remarks, however, sparked outrage among Tiv people and other Nigerians who accused the reality star of promoting harmful stereotypes.

On Saturday, a petition was initiated against Venita by Devaan Hanmation, a writer, on Change.org.

As of Monday, the petition has attracted over 6,509 signatures from people demanding Akpofure’s immediate exit from the show.

It also called for public apologies from Akpofure, MultiChoice Nigeria, and the BBNaija organisers.

“We demand the immediate expulsion of Venita Akpofure from the BBN house,” it reads.

“We also expect a public apology from her on the same platform where she made those remarks. Apologies from MultiChoice, BBN, and their representatives are also sought.

“N120 million is being offered as prize money. Venita must not win it. We want her out. ”
