The National Universities Commission (NUC) has accreditated 18 undergraduate degree programmes at Sokoto State University (SSU).
In a statement on Friday, Zayyanu Shehu, the varsity’s public relations officer, said the accreditation status covers all of the 18 courses undertaken by the university after an intensive exercise conducted by NUC.
He said the summary of results letter was signed by Abraham Chundusu, the NUC acting director of accreditation, on behalf of the commission’s executive secretary and presented to Bashir Garba, the SSU vice-chancellor.
“The programmes that obtained full accreditation status comprised Computer Science, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Microbiology,” the statement reads in part.
“Others are Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Arabic, Hausa, History, and Islamic Studies, Education Computer Science, Education Mathematics, Education Physics, Education Biology, and Education Chemistry.”
On his part, Garba expressed the institution’s appreciation to the commission for the outcomes of the exercise.
He assured that the varsity would remain committed to attaining academic standards to continue meeting all the NUC requirements for global ranking.
“Indeed, this achievement underscores the University’s commitment to academic excellence and its dedication to meeting the highest standards set by the NUC,” he said.
“Scoring full accreditation status for all the programmes presented to the NUC required commitment and dedication.”
