Bloody Civilian and Ria Sean, the fast-rising Nigerian singers, have been selected for the latest cohort of RADAR, an initiative by Spotify, the streaming platform.
Spotify unveiled the five singers selected for the programme aimed at promoting emerging artistes in Africa and across the globe on Friday.
The list also includes Baaba J, the Ghanaian singer, Xenia Manasseh from Kenya, and Tyla from South Africa respectively.
Bloody Civilian started studying music production at the age of 12 and has since self-produced her debut single titled ‘How To Kill A Man’.
Ria Sean is a singer-songwriter who combines Afro-fusion, pop, and R&B into her music. With a distinctive and versatile voice, she has collaborated with singers like Leriq, Moelogo, and Adekunle Gold.
Victor Okpala, Spotify’s artiste and label partnerships manager in West Africa, said the singers will join a “global cohort as part of the programme dedicated to driving the discovery of emerging artistes across the world”.
“As the music industry continues to evolve, it’s essential to find new ways to support emerging talent and offer them a fair chance at success both on and off the platform,” Okpala said.
“So we are thrilled to welcome Xenia Manasseh, Bloody Civilian, Ria Sean, Tyla, and Baaba J to the RADAR programme. These artists represent the diversity and vibrancy of the African music scene and we are excited to support them as they continue to grow their careers.”
The Spotify RADAR programme was launched in 2020. Last year, Ayra Starr, DBN Gogo, Black Sherif, Victony, BNXN and Buruklyn Boyz were also selected for the programme.
