Several Nigerians on X (formerly Twitter) have reacted to a video of Peter Obi dining with Muslims inside a mosque in Nasarawa state.

Obi visited the central mosque in Maraba-Nyanya to participate in breaking the Ramadan fast on Monday evening.

In the now-viral video, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election could be seen eating rice while sitting on a mat.

The former governor of Anambra was also captured spoon-feeding a young boy inside the mosque while other congregants gathered around him watching.

Obi also revealed what informed his decision to join other Muslims to break their Ramadan fast.

“My team and I had the opportunity of feeding and breaking the Ramadan fast of the day with around 1000 individuals at the Maraba-Nyanya International Market Central Mosque, symbolizing unity and cooperation during this auspicious season,” he wrote.

“These visits are invaluable opportunities for me to gain insight into the realities faced by our people, many of whom are enduring monumental hardships at this very moment, and also to demonstrate the need for leaders to show responsibility and empathy for the people around them.”

Some Nigerians, however, took to X to express their divergent opinions on Obi’s visit to the mosque.

While some users praised the politician for his “humility” which they described as “impressive”, others found his action “distasteful”, arguing that he was doing it to win more hearts ahead of the 2027 election.

“Wow this is so impressive, your humility is worthy of emulation and your leadership style is inspirational,” a user wrote.

Another user wrote: “Yes Daddy, this is a religious war… why is he licking the spoon? This kind show of shame, we dey keep the record for 2027 election”.

“This is so awkward to watch, he is not even a Muslim so why do this,” a user added.

The development comes at about the same time when Ahmad Aliyu, the governor of Sokoto state, was spotted breaking his Ramadan fast with an almajiri kid.
