Last week, the Lagos-based church announced its upcoming concert. It also invited Portable, Pasuma, the Fuji musician, and May Shua, the songstress, to perform at the concert.
The church’s announcement of the singers’ proposed participation, however, provoked backlashes on social media after it went viral last Wednesday.
Olatosho Oshoffa, the leader of the Celestial Church of Christ International headquarters in Ketu, while responding to the poster on his Facebook page, said he had requested an immediate amendment of the poster.
“Dear Celestians, I have just had a lengthy conversation with the Shepherd in Charge of the aforementioned Parish. He has promised to amend the posters,” he wrote.
“He has assured me that the aforementioned musicians in question won’t be attending the praise night. Without a doubt, that particular poster is highly unacceptable. God bless CCC. Amen.”
As of the time of this report, the church is however yet to release any statement to indicate if Portable will not be performing in the event.
In a now-viral video, Portable said he was paid N5 million by the church hence he must perform.
“You Cele people, we will have to do that show. You have sent money. N5 million. We are going to do it. Pasuma will come in. Everyone will come. We will do it. Children of God are coming. Land of Goshen is coming. Land of Goshen Cathedral, we beg you, in the name of God, to see me as a child of God. Do not use my look to judge me,” he said in a mixture of pidgin English and Yoruba.
“I am truly wicked. I have also suffered wickedness. I have suffered wickedness since I was born. I beg you. We must perform that day. Angels sing a glorious song. I have holy hands. Hossana to the Hebrews. Hallelujah to the sons of David. God, forgive me. God’s work cannot be stopped.
“It has been written that I am an angel and will perform in a celestial church. CCC Land of Goshen, I am going to perform alongside Alhaji Pasuma. You cannot cancel it. My fans in Cele, come out in all.”
