“Best Artiste in Africa, number one, that Ika of Africa, that Ika of Africa I must collect that award,” he added.
“I wan collect that award, international oh. No be all those local awards, no be all those industry awards.”
Although there are categories like ‘Best Global Music Album’ and ‘Best Global Music Performance’ — which have been won by some African musicians — the Grammys do not have a category for ‘Best Artiste in Africa’.
Portable had his big break in December 2021 when he featured Olamide and Poco Lee in a street hop song titled ‘Zazoo Zeh’.
He has since then been in the spotlight for controversial reasons.
Last year, the singer was in the news for physically assaulting one of his signees after an argument.
Portable once claimed to have founded a cult that had terrorised residents in parts of Lagos state years back.
He also threatened to assassinate rival musicians nominated alongside him in The Headies 2022.
The police ordered a probe into the cult claim while The Headies eventually disqualified him.
