‘Some of his ideas are old-fashioned’ — Pete Edochie’s marital advice to women sparks arguments

Pete Edochie has sparked arguments on the Nigerian Twitter-sphere over the advice he gave to married women on how to handle cheating husbands.

On Monday, a video had surfaced on social media and gone viral wherein the 74-year-old actor asked wives to stuff packets of condom into the bag of their husbands whom they suspect is leaving home to have an affair.

“If you think that your husband leaves the house and says that he is going on tour and he is going to have an affair outside, put a packet of condom into his bag; tell him that you have packed his bag for him. When he sees it, psychologically, he is going to think ‘this woman has my interest at heart.’ If it is his intention to stray, he will put himself together,” he had said.

His advice, however, didn’t go down well with a number of Twitter users,  some of whom took to the microblogging platform to air their mixed reactions on the topic.

“Pete Edochie is 74. Let’s show the man some Grace. Some of his ideas are bound to be old-fashioned. If you never insult your parents/grandparents who may say the same thing, why are you crying about Pete Edochie? Your outrage won’t change the man. You are wasting your tears,” a user wrote.

Another user wrote: “Pete Edochie is right. I’m not leaving my home because of another woman. I will only divorce him if he disrespectfully brings her into the home. I said it severally. Even condom, I will supply him with it because I want to protect myself.”

In February 2020, Edochie had set Twitter on fire after he lambasted Nigerian men who abide by the western practice of kneeling while proposing to women.

I think they need to stop interviewing Pete Edochie. Especially on social issues.

The man is 74. His generation is entirely different from ours on social issues and gender matters.

Pete edochie is an old man yes, but his words make you reflect on the nonsense a lot of Nigerian women endured and still endure given how he's still dishing out company secrets of the patriarchy to young men and continuing the cycle.

That’s what the condoms are for. The condom is supposed to prevent you ending up with HIV and STDs. And in some instances, doing that might actually turn such situations around. A cheating man whose wife hands him a condom on his way out might actually pause and question things.
