An associate of Obi Cubana on Tuesday claimed that the Abuja-based business mogul was released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Onwumelu Valentine, the businessman’s friend and colleague, announced this via his Instagram page.
“Thank u Jesus!! @obi_cubana is free. We gat Jesus!!! . Dis Dance is for all my fans. I love u all,” he wrote.
Shortly after Valentine’s post, the 46-year-old nightlife promoter put out a terse post via his Instagram page, wherein he said he remains “unbroken.”
“Okpataozueora! I love you all! Unbroken #manoftheyear2021,” he wrote.
But when TheCable Lifestyle contacted a top source in the commission, he said the socialite is still in custody.
“That’s not true,” the source said of the administrative bail reportedly given to him.
“You can’t be granted bail and you’ll still be in the custody. You can be offered bail but if you have not met the condition, you’ll still be around.”
The anti-graft agency had on Monday grilled the socialite for alleged money laundering and tax fraud.
The development has continued to elicit different reactions, as many Nigerians — including celebrities — registered their views on social media platforms.
2Baba, Peter Okoye, Ubi Franklin, and Cubana Chief Priest earlier joined other celebrities to demand the release of the socialite using the hashtag #FreeObiCubana.
Abba Bichi, son of Yusuf Bichi, the director-general (DG) of the Department of State Services (DSS), also described Cubana as “a man of dignity”.
The entrepreneur has featured in comedy skits and snagged numerous recognition.
He had earlier revealed why he threw a lavish funeral ceremony in honour of his late mother and also defended his open display of wealth.
