Godwin Obaseki, Edo state governor, has approved the appointment of Aderemi Makanjuola, chairman of the Caverton Offshore Support Group, as chancellor of the Edo University, Iyamho (EUI).

Emmanuel Aluyor, the vice-chancellor of the state-owned university, made this known in a letter addressed to Makanjuola on October 23.

According to him, necessary steps are being taken by the state government to gazette the appointment, which is effective from October 12.

“I wish to convey the approval of his Excellency Governor Godwin Obaseki to appoint you as chancellor of the Edo University Iyamho for a term of five years with effect from October 12, 2019. The duties of your appointment are contained in the law setting up the university and are stated are follows;” the letter read.

“The university chancellor shall in relation to the university take precedence over all the members of the university and, when present, shall preside at any meeting or convocation in the university. Necessary steps are being taken by the Edo State Government to Gazette the appointment. Please be assured of his Excellency’s highest regards.”

EUI is situated in Edo north, Etsako west LGA of the state.

The university was opened in March 2016 and approved by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) as Nigeria’s 41st state university to offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programmes.
