A video from the wedding ceremony went viral on social media recently, with users calling for actions to be taken against older men who get married to teenage girls.

Reacting to the allegation in a statement shared on Facebook on Wednesday, Aminu Danmaliki argued that his wife is 21 years old and not 11 as widely claimed.

The Abuja-based man also shared a photo showing him and Sekina sitting in a friendly posture.

Danmaliki, who contested to be a senator of Bauchi south in 2018, also advised critics to see the “reality” in the photo and “leave us alone to enjoy our honeymoon.”

“My recent marriage with Sekina has generated a lot of tension and unfounded allegations that I married an underage girl,” he wrote.

“Some suggesting she is 11 years old and that she was forced to marry me. That is untrue. The wedding video went viral. We decided to keep mute but was advised to state the true facts.

“Here it is: My beloved wife is 21 years old she made her own choice of me as her husband and I loved her too.

“I hope the blackmailers and doubting Thomas’s will see the reality in this picture and leave us alone to enjoy our honeymoon.”

Danmaliki is also believed to be a traditional title holder in the Bauchi emirate council.

On March 2, 2022, the elderly man celebrated his first wife on the occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary.
