Kuti was arrested on Monday and detained at the state criminal investigation Department (SCID) popularly known as Panti.

Seun’s arrest came after he was filmed assaulting a police officer on the Third Mainland Bridge on Saturday.

The musician was arraigned before the magistrate court in Yaba on Tuesday.

Reacting to the series of events that followed Kuti’s arrest via Twitter, the comedian said the police were now aware of how it feels to be assaulted and harassed.

While lauding the police for swiftly seeking justice for their colleague, Mr Macaroni, however, stressed the need for the same momentum and attention when citizens are “harassed and brutalized by its officers.”

“I love how the Nigerian Police is quickly seeking justice for one of theirs who was assaulted. I hope such speed is also applied when Citizens are being harassed and brutalized by the Nigerian Police,” the skit maker wrote.

While I totally condemn the assault on Police officers, I also condemn any form of maltreatment against Seun Kuti.

“As police attempt to fight for the rights of one of theirs, Seun Kuti’s rights must be allowed to take it’s course.

“I hope the Nigerian Police understand how the people also feel when they assault, brutalize, humiliate and oppress us.

“All I want is for things to be done rightly. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. I hope the Police and the Citizens understand this.

“It should be Good against Evil. Not Police vs Citizens because we all are capable of both good and evil. I want a better society, we must encourage good and shun evil.”

The court recently directed the police to detain Seun for additional 48 hours and then release him on bail.
