MR IBU, SISI QUADRI DEATHS

Sisi Quadri died on Friday and was buried the following day in his hometown.

The cause of his death, however, remained unclear.

Mr Ibu, on the other hand, died as a result of cardiac arrest on Saturday evening.

He passed away at the age of 62 at the Evercare Hospital in Lagos.

Their deaths left Nigerians in shock as tributes poured for the comic actors.

In his condolence message, President Bola Tinubu hailed the two “thespians for bringing joy and relief to millions of Nigerians”.

UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP ACQUIRES MAJORITY STAKE IN MAVINS RECORDS

Universal Music Group (UMG) has acquired a majority stake in Mavin Records, the Nigerian music label.

The multinational entertainment and record label conglomerate confirmed the acquisition on Monday.

The announcement comes a few weeks after Don Jazzy addressed rumours surrounding the potential sale of Mavin Records.

Reacting to the acquisition, Don Jazzy said the deal “will elevate African music on the global stage”.

Mavin Records was established by Don Jazzy, the Nigerian music producer, in 2012.

NASTY BLAQ BATTLES ILLNESS

Abisi Emmanuel, the Nigerian skit maker better known as Nasty Blaq, last week, revealed his battle with an undisclosed illness.

The online comedian uploaded a picture of himself receiving a medical check-up at a hospital.

He said “I can’t fight it anymore” while seeking prayers from his supporters.

The comedian also disclosed he would be taking some time off content creation to recover from the illness.

Nasty Blaq, however, did not reveal the details of his illness.

ASAKE’S ‘ONLY ME’ VIDEO SPARKS OUTRAGE

Asake sparked outrage on social media over his recently released visuals for ‘Only Me’, his hit single.

The singer unveiled the music video, directed by TG Omori, last Thursday.

The video saw Asake adorned in a priestly garment while giving out communion in a place decorated like a church.

His video vixens were also dressed up like altar servers — the people who assisted the priests in the church.

The video, however, did not sit well with some section of social media users, who accused Asake, a Muslim, of “continually disrespecting the Christian faith”.

WASIU AYINDE CANCELED BIRTHDAY PARTY OVER ECONOMIC HARDSHIP

Wasiu Ayinde, the Fuji singer better known as Kwam 1, canceled his 67th birthday party on Sunday due to economic hardship in Nigeria.

The ace singer lamented the rate of poverty in Nigeria, saying “many people are praying for survival at this point”.

He said although his 67th birthday is a “joyous day for me”, nothing is worth celebrating.

Ayinde, a supporter of Tinubu, urged his fans to use the occasion of his birthday to “help someone and share gifts with people”.

MOSES BLISS, MARIE WISEBORN WEDDING 

Moses Bliss, the Nigerian gospel singer, and Marie Wiseborn, his wife, tied the knot over the weekend in Ghana.

Last week, the lovebirds had their court, traditional, and church weddings.

They also hosted a praise concert in Accra, Ghana’s capital city.

Nathaniel Bassey, Juliet Ibrahim, and Real Warri Pikin were among the celebrities who graced the event.

US-BASED ACTOR TAYO ADELEYE LOSES WIFE

Tayo Adeleye, the US-based Nigerian actor, lost Shantal Sakwe Adeleye, his wife.

The actor announced the death of his wife last Tuesday where he shared a clip from the funeral ceremony and throwback pictures they took together.
