Abba Bichi, son of Yusuf Bichi, the director-general (DG) of the Department of State Services (DSS), has described Obi Cubana as “a man of dignity”.
Cubana, the Abuja-based business mogul, was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday for alleged money laundering.
The 46-year-old socialite was also interrogated at the headquarters of the EFCC in Jabi, Abuja.
Cubana, whose real name is Obinna Iyiegbu, had attracted attention after he staged a lavish funeral for his late mother in Anambra.
Since the burial of his mum, many Nigerians have questioned the source of his wealth — a topic he had addressed in several media interviews.
Shortly after news of his detention circulated the internet, Abba took to his Instagram page to describe Cubana as “a man of honour and integrity”.
The socialite, while defending his open display of wealth, said how he spends his money cannot be dictated to him by the public.
“I don’t have time for people who want to tell me how to spend the money that I made through my own efforts,” he had said.
“It’s waste of time replying to such people. They’re only criticising me because they don’t want others to succeed.
“We didn’t plan it (the burial) this way. It’s not about money. Money couldn’t have gotten us such a huge crowd, it was out of the goodwill that I enjoy from the public.”
