Messi was an inspiration as the South American country claimed the 2022 World Cup on Sunday.

The World Cup final between Argentina and France was played at the Lusali Stadium in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

Messi scored two goals in a pulsating game that ended 3-3 after extra time and was followed by a penalty shootout.

Celebrating the victory, the 35-year-old took to his Instagram page and shared a gallery of pictures of himself and his Argentine teammates celebrating their World Cup success.

The post has amassed 58.4 million likes — as of the time of filing this report — surpassing a picture of an egg, which held the top position for over three years.

On Monday, Messi’s picture had already broken the record for the most liked post by an athlete on the same platform.

He surpassed a post of Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo – a Louis Vuitton ad featuring the two football stars – which accumulated 41.9 million likes.
