Mercy Johnson, the Nigerian actress, says her childhood ordeal is the reason she is so protective of her kids.

In the latest episode of ‘Mercy’s Menu, her cooking show, the film star said she grew up feeling empty and having no sense of direction.

“One of my biggest fears would be my kids going through what I went through, you know that emptiness and that no sense of direction,” she said.

Mercy said  she suffered as a child and would not want her children to have the same experience.

“So like I always say, my life is like a scale of preference and they come first before every other thing,” she said.

“Because as a child, I suffered so much and I remember crying with nobody to clean my eyes. I can define hunger because I know it. I can define abuse.

“So it’s a feeling I don’t want any child, not the one that came from me to go through. My past is the reason why I’m so protective of my kids.”

Mercy was in the news in October 2021, after she alleged that a teacher in a Lagos-based school intimidated Purity Okojie, her daughter.

The actress was thereafter accused of harassing the school’s head teacher with thugs — although she refuted the claim.
