Wizkid has enjoyed a great deal of publicity since the release of his EP, ‘Sounds From The Other Side’.
The first international EP by the singer has received a lot of positive nods from the global audience he intended it for, including topping charts like Billboard.
However, his Nigerian fans have been feeling left out of his new offering to the world. Although most are excited about the ‘Sweet Love’ singer’s continued success, there has been a certain level of disconnect hovering, even if not admitted.
Wizkid appears to have gotten a whiff of it — and may have felt pressured to prove his mettle — as he recently came home to cook a hot meal for the ‘pon pon’ diehards.
But what is ‘pon pon’?
‘Pon Pon’ is the upbeat tempo, club-ready sound of the genre known as Afropop. The lyrics of ‘pon pon’ songs are usually bereft of depth.
Before the release of SFTOS, Davido had thrown a subliminal shot believed to be directed at Wizkid.
“Nah pon pon sound they reign now oo!! No Jonze, all other sounds nah the least for now,” he had said on Snapchat about a month before the release of SFTOS.
Wizkid, who is in Lagos for a short break, spent a bulk of his time in the studio — and on one of the songs he recorded, he reminds fans of his ‘pon pon’ prowess.
Produced by Mastercraft, ‘Medicine’ was served to fans on Saturday.

Wizkid also announced that another song (or more) would be released soon enough.
Take a listen to ‘Medicine’ — and await more from the ‘pon pon’ department.
