The Oscar-winning actress was said to have arrived Lagos on Saturday night for a private dinner organised by the author.

The event, it was gathered, was to intimate the Nigerian creative community with her screen-adaptation of ‘Americanah,’ a novel by Adichie.

HBO Max, a division of WarnerMedia Entertainment, had in September last year announced a straight-to-series order for a 10-episode adaptation of Adichie’s novel.

It is believed that the talented actress will be the main character in the show while also serving as the executive director. Danai Gurira, a playwright and star of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and ‘The Walking Dead’, will serve as show-runner for the limited series.

Nyongo’s visit to Nigeria comes on the same day she emerged among the winners at the 2020 edition of the NAACP Image Awards.

The actress cum writer emerged winner of the ‘Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture’ category for her role in ‘Us’ — a horror thriller. She also won the ‘Outstanding Literary Work- Children’ category for ‘Sulwe’, her novel.

Nyong’o had taken to her social media page shortly after the award to celebrate the feat.
