The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has warned skit makers and filmmakers against the unauthorised use of their uniforms.
In a statement on Friday, Bolaji Oreagba, the general manager of LASTMA, said he was shocked to see an actor fully dressed in their uniform in a movie.
In the statement signed by Adebayo Taofiq, its spokesperson, Oreagba declared that the unauthorised use of their uniforms by film and skit makers is “illegal”.
He also warned that anyone caught using their uniform without an approved permit will be prosecuted.
“The management of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has declared the use of Lastma uniforms, kits and other accouterments by film and skit makers illegal,” the statement reads.
“Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, the general manager of LASTMA frowned at the demeaning manner in which movie and skit makers portray Lastma institution in their movies and skits, using Lastma uniform without recourse to the Section 79 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 which criminalize such unauthorized use.
“Mr. Oreagba made this known today after seeing a fully kitted actress Olayinka Solomon with Lastma uniform in one of the yoruba film titled ‘Gbogbo Lowo’ and other skits movies on different social media.
“According to Oreagba “film or skit makers who portray as Lastma Officer without applying for, and being duly issued a permit letter for such portrayals, to desist with immediate effect or face the full wrath of the Law
“We implore National Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTA) and other affiliated bodies to warn their members as anyone caught using Lastma Uniform without an approved permit would be prosecuted.”

In July, the Nigerian police said it would prosecute Cute Abiola, the skit maker, for the “derogatory portrayal” of its uniform.
Last year, the IGP also warned actors and skit makers against misusing police uniforms.
