Boyega recently disclosed that he pushed for the inclusion of Wizkid’s ‘Daddy Yo’ to be among the soundtracks for Pacific Rim Uprising, a Hollywood blockbuster he co-produced.

While promoting the action flick in an interview on MTV Base, Boyega spoke of his love for Wizkid and Nigerian afropop which has been termed afrobeats.

Boyega said: “I’ve always been a fan of his music since he was singing ‘Hola At Your Boy’ and ‘That’s My Baby’.

“I’ve always been a big fan of his music. Me, I’m a big fan of unity, I’m a big fan of home.

“I just thought that me rocking this Naija-style robe[in Pacific Rim Uprising] is a good way of just showing that Jake loves good afrobeats.”

The actor stars as Jake Pentecost in Pacific Rim Uprising which he says is “about a bunch of young people who aren’t suppoosed to be involved in a war.”

“It’s too early for the stage they are but they have to step up and handle the obstacle anyway. It’s the voice of the young people that is being answered to now.

“It’s about a bunch of young people who have differences, different types of upbringing.”

The movie, released March 23, dethroned ‘Black Panther’ from atop the US box office.
