For the second time in three weeks, residents of Iyana-Odo, Igando, in Lagos,  today trooped to the streets with containers to scoop fuel from a ruptured pipeline gushing out petrol.

Speaking with TheCable, some of those indulging in the dangerous act revealed that they always keep containers nearby, since the spilling of petrol from burst pipelines has become a frequent occurrence.

Asked if they are aware of the risk of death from possible explosion, one of them, Jide, said: ”Fuel is scarce, and we have to survive. After all, a man can only die once.”

Few minutes later, policemen arrived to direct traffic away from the scene and ward off the residents from scooping the liquid.

Other residents who stood aloof watching appealed to relevant authorities to urgently address the issue, as it has become too frequent, consequently endangering their lives.

It will be recalled that a similar incident happened at that same spot in Iyano-Odo three weeks ago, while another occurred at Estate Bus Stop, also at Iyana-Odo, in Igando, in March.
