Olumide Ogunade, the Nigerian music producer fondly called ID Cabasa, has opened up on his decade-long feud with 9ice, the singer.

9ice and Tony Seun Payne, an artiste manager, tied the knot in 2008 but broke up in 2011 after the union was hit by an infidelity scandal.

Revisiting the scandal when he was featured on the WithChude podcast, ID Cabasa said 9ice got angry with him over his decision to continue working with Payne.

Payne was the artiste manager of Cabasa’s Coded Tunes Record. The music label had Olamide, the rapper, and 9ice in its roasters.

Cabasa said 9ice was peeved by his decision to keep working with Payne despite their messy breakup. He said that was what led to their fallout.

Cabasa said he kept Payne in his label because of Zion, her son with 9ice.

The producer also said he tried to reconcile the estranged lovers at the time.

“Definitely. You know, 9ice and I before it happened. I think that is how the devil works. He isolates you. A lot of things happened that, to date, I can tell you 9ice cannot sit down Chude and say this was what happened between Cabasa and I. Because if I was in the whole picture, what happened would not have happened. It is one of the most painful episodes in all of these,” he said.

“When I heard that all of that stuff happened, I was angry with 9ice. I said, ‘hey, guy, you are one of the luckiest that I see around here. This babe is your friend’.

“When they told me the things that happened, none of these things have the potential of causing this… It was not that there was infidelity. Though some mischief makers came up with the song ‘Twice Bitten’. The day we were making that song, Seun was in the house with us. She was the one who made food for us. That song was never about Tony Payne. Had nothing.

“The issue between the two of them had nothing to do with infidelity. I was angry all of those times. I wanted to talk, but my guys will be like, it is not your business.

“When I started pushing Olamide, you noticed I brought Tony Payne. 9ice was angry. 9ice did not know why I brought Tony Payne. I brought Tony Payne because I needed to keep Tony and Zion close to 9ice.”

Cabasa, however, described 9ice as one of the friends he knows that “will take a bullet for me”.
