Terna Tarka, the ex-husband of Venita Akpofure, the Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) reality TV star, has denied a claim that Tiv men give their wives to guests for pleasure.
While on this year’s BBNaija All-Stars season, Akpofure claimed that Tiv men offer their wives to guests.
The comment triggered outrage on social media.
In a post-show interview, Akpofure apologised for her comment about the Tiv men.
She said her daughters are Tiv and she would never make “slanderous comments” about their tribe.
But speaking on the matter via Instagram on Wednesday, Tarka said the statement is “derogatory,” adding that such an act never happened in his marriage.
He also denied the existence of such a practice in Tiv culture.
He added that although the Tivs ensure guests feel treated as “VIPs”, the men are “fiercely protective over their wives and daughters”.
“I would like to categorically state that in all my years of hosting my guests, even the thought of such a derogatory practice has never crossed my mind so therefore such a thing never occurred in my marriage,” he said.
“Such a practice has never occurred or existed within the Tiv culture or any other Nigerian culture for that matter.
“Tiv men are fiercely protective over their wives and daughters. I strongly suggest against trespassing. Yes, we go to any length to ensure that our guests feel as if they are VIPs…
“I would like to thank Venita for being a truly amazing and wonderful mother to our two Tiv princesses”
Akpofure and Tarka got married in 2015 but the marriage hit the rocks in 2019. The union produced two children.
