Hawa Magaji says she is proud to be the host of a recently premiered dating show because she can now inspire other young girls from the north to think beyond cultural and religious barriers.

The media personality is the host of ‘What Will People Say?’, an interactive dating reality show on Africa Magic. The show premiered on June 16.

Magaji was also the host of high-profile events such as the premiere of ‘The Real Housewives of Abuja,’ Davido’s ‘Timeless’ concert, and ‘Vibes on the Beach’ with Wizkid.

Speaking with TheCable Lifestyle, the content creator said her journey to being the host of concerts and loved-themed shows was inspired by the fact that the north is not well represented in those aspects of showbiz.

“Honestly for me, when I was going into this, part of the thing that motivated me was the fact that I’m from the north, and growing up, I didn’t see a lot of representation in that regard,” she said.

“We from the north are very conservative. So, first of all, my goal is to be a change maker, I want that northern girl seeing me to feel like, oh okay I can actually be a presenter, I can be a host, the fact that I am from a more conservative state or part of the country shouldn’t be a restriction to me.

“And with how I am able to take the heat, I think I do my job very well and I think there’s a very thin line. I’m very respectful, I would like to say, in everything. I remember at my watch party I was telling my friends that when I told my parents I was doing this, they had one request, please make sure you dress modestly.

“For me, that’s just it, I also try to be respectful of where I’m from, because at the end of the day, I am a representative of the northern people, so in as much as I’m doing this, and maybe it will not sit well with some people, to the best of my capacity I try to be very respectful.”

Magaji said ‘What Will People Say?’ provides the platform “for people that are single to come and potentially find a connection or chemistry that can lead to something bigger”.
