Sammie Okposo, the celebrated Nigerian gospel singer and psalmist, is dead at age 51.
ThisDay reports that ID Cabasa, a producer, said the musician slumped and died in his Lagos home on Friday.
The circumstance of his death, as of when this report was filed, is still sketchy.
Family sources contacted by TheCable Lifestyle about the development were not available to comment.
After coming to the limelight for his music, Sammie Okposo established himself as an international gospel artiste.
He was also a music producer, psalmist, and CEO of Zamar Entertainment.
The singer released his first album ‘Addicted’ in 2004.
He collaborated with many other artistes in the gospel and soul genres.
Okposo’s most recent album ‘The Statement’ (2018) was produced by the Grammy-winning Kevin Bond.
The singer was on the receiving end of a heated backlash in January after he admitted to cheating on his wife.
“I need to bring a very unfortunate incident to your attention as I am not proud of it but know that this is the right thing to do,” he had stated.
“On my recent trip to the USA in late 2021, I got intimately involved with a lady, knowing that this was not appropriate as a married man and a minister of the gospel.
“I am ashamed and regret my actions. It has caused a lot of pain to my dear wife, Ozioma, my family, and me.”
The confession triggered a wave of reactions from Christendom and fans of his music.
After initially going off social media, Okposo would return in February 2022 to write: “I am free from the power of sin. I am no longer bound by the fear of men.”
