Funky Mallam, the comedian and Kannywood actor, has criticised Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos governor, for ordering his police escorts to arrest a “soldier” over a traffic violation.

On Tuesday, Sanwo-Olu ordered the arrests of motorcyclists riding against traffic on the Lagos-Badagry expressway.

When one of the offenders claimed to be a soldier, the governor said, “get in there. Useless boy. You are telling me you are a soldier. Lock him up!!”

On Wednesday, a soldier berated Sanwo-Olu for the arrest of his “colleague”, claiming that they have a right to drive against traffic.

Another soldier also rebuked the governor, saying he would have dealt with him if he were one he disgraced.

“‘Who the f*ck are you?’ You think say na me you go jam that day, you are calling me useless? I will useless you there,” he said in a viral video shared on Instagram.

In the comment section of the post, Funky Mallam called out the state government for allegedly violating its law, specifically regarding the use of sirens.

The Kannywood star, born Saeed Mohammed, also said Sanwo-Olu should have reported the soldier to his superior rather than “disgrace him by involving the police”.

“The blunt fact is that the government would have cautioned the soldier and not asked police to arrest him,” Funky Mallam wrote.

“Most laws are broken by the same government. Using sire in most cases is against the law but they still flaunt it with impunity.

“One way wey danfo drivers dey ply like their father’s road. The governor would have reported the soldier to his superior to penalise him.

“These soldiers are pained because baba disgrace the guy by asking police to arrest him.”
