According to Reuters, the event, aimed at celebrating canines as well as their owners, featured several dogs clad in sunglasses, tutus, dresses and jackets strutted on the “dogwalk”.

Other categories of awards at the event included best showmanship as well as best human and dog pair.

Jackie de McGoo, an animal rights activist who doubles as the event’s organiser, said the initiative seeks to promote animal welfare and create awareness on the benefits of owning pets.

“Dog owners are underappreciated in Lagos, Nigeria. People don’t really think much of animals. So, this event is channeled at celebrating the humans that go all out above and beyond for these animals,” she said.
