Ukpera was said to have once contested to represent Guma constituency at the state house of assembly election under the platform of Labour Party (LP).

On Saturday, photos flooded social media platforms of him allegedly donating the ropes at Imande Akpu and Tse-Chagu communities and it got a lot of users talking.

It was gathered that Ukpera said the initiative was in support of the state anti-open grazing and ranches establishment law introduced by Samuel Ortom, the state governor.

The state has continued to witness herder-farmer conflicts, leading to the deaths and displacements of a huge number of residents.

But the politician was also reported to have said that the donation would further help in the ongoing campaign against open grazing and prevent animals from roaming the streets.

The development has however, sparked reactions on social media platforms, especially Twitter, where users have registered their different takes on the donation.

“Ropes to tie goat is Daniel Ukpera’s (HOA) poverty alleviation. There’s really suffering in Benue. From governor wheelbarrow to HOA goat rope. Do our rulers like us or they only like themselves? Are they good leaders or shadow criminals? Aluta,” Seun Kuti wrote in a mixture of Pidgin and English.

“A Benue politician, Daniel Ukpera has just donated ropes to the people of his community so they can use it to tie their goats. The only sad part to this is that the people are okay with this. They should use that rope to tie him to a tree and beat him mercilessly like a goat,” a user said.
