A Twitter war broke out on Saturday between some users from South Africa and Nigeria after the former claimed that the latter was responsible for “majority of crimes committed in their country, including prostitution and illegal drug trade.”
Trouble started after a video of a South African lady surfaced on the social media platform in which she can be seen dancing semi-clad in front of some Nigerian men in a room.
In the now-viral video, the men can be seen smoking and drinking while they cheered the lady on as she danced while baring her backside.
The video has since sparked outrage among a number of South African users who requested that their counterparts pack up and leave their country.
Using the hashtag #NigerianMustFall, they also accused Nigerians of peddling drugs and luring their ladies into prostitution, drug abuse and also raping them.
The accusations were not taken lightly by some Nigerian users who also registered their annoyance on Twitter.
“Is South Africa so free of crime that it’s just Nigerians perpetrating all the crimes? Is the SA Police so inefficient that the Nigerian culprits cannot be arrested? This isn’t about condoning bad behaviour of Nigerians but this hashtag #NigeriansMustFall depicts real hate,” a Twitter user said.
“I am a big fan of justice. Attack me if you like but Nigerians should go home. #NigeriansMustFall,” another user said.

South African men are beating us and killing us, they want #NigeriansMustFall because they hate seeing us with other men treating us right, they think they own us…and when they are done with us, they would rather end our lives than see us with another man #StopKillingWomen

We must not be tired to distance our selves from reactionary & openly xenophobic content: the #NigeriansMustFall hashtag is Afro-phobic. All Africans of conscience must speak out against it. Nigerians are blacks, Africans like is. We are all Nigerian. #NigerianLivesMatter

Last week a 28yr old pregnant woman went missing in South Africa. She was later killed and hanged on a tree. She was 8months pregnant.
Yesterday an SA girl was on video twerking for nigerian men. Today, SA Twitter is angry and trending #NigeriansMustFall.

South Africa has a culture of violence. The men, especially, need serious therapy. They attack uber drivers, women, and black migrants. Violence is so inherent and always ready to erupt that the govt had to ban alcohol this year. #NigeriansMustFall is the latest violence.

People staying in glass houses do not feel our pain, their children are safe, its so disturbing to see celebrities and politicians against our children's safety and calling us Xenophobic when we raise issues affecting us #NigeriansMustFall #PutSouthAfricaFirst

Funny how South Africans believe their country would be as serene as heaven if not for the Nigerians there.
Anyone promoting the #NigeriansMustFall xenophobic tweet should be arrested.

Men who're at the forefront of #NigeriansMustFall need to get themselves checked. You're also part of the problem, you sell drugs, rape, kill women and children then get away with it because of the flawed patriarchal system. Nigerians are not the problem, MEN ARE THE PROBLEM.
— Asemahle Ntumntum (@n_asemahle) June 13, 2020
Xenophobic South Africans yesterday, #BlackLivesMattters.
Today #NigeriansMustFall on the same continent with the same skin pigment.
Listen! You are worse than racists.
It's your papa house that will FALL on you.
— AyeMojubar (@ayemojubar) June 13, 2020
I've gone through the #NigeriansMustFall tweets, and all I can see is south Africans trying to pull Nigeria down cos of their fear of Nigerians dominating their country!
