Portable, the Nigerian singer, has officially apologised to the organisers of The Headies over his threat to his co-nominees.

Last month, the fast-rising singer was nominated to vie in the ‘Rookie of the Year’ and ‘Best Street-Hop Artiste’ categories.

In the ‘Rookie of the Year’ category, he is expected to compete with Av, Fave, Magixx, and Ugoccie.

For the second category, he is pitted against Bella Shmurda, Mohbad, Naira Marley, and Goya Menor among others.

Shortly after the nominations were unveiled, Portable claimed his co-nominees at The Headies are no match for him.

He also threatened to kill anyone who wins any of the categories in his place.

In its reaction, organisers of the awards threatened to disqualify him if he failed to retract his statement and issue an apology on his social media pages.

Portable had taunted the award organisers, saying they “nominated a mad man musician”.

But in a recent Instagram post, the singer said his “unguarded utterance” was harmless, adding that he meant no harm to his co-nominees.

He also announced that the video wherein he made the remark had been deleted from his page.

“On behalf of myself my management and the entire Zeh nation I sincerely apologise for my unguarded utterances as I do not mean any harm to the nominees in any way,” he wrote.

“The video has been deleted on my page and I appreciate all your support so far God bless my fans. God bless the Headies.”

Zeh Nation, the singer’s record label, also issued a statement apologising to the Headies on his behalf.

“It is our passionate appeal to the organisers of the Headies not to disqualify our artiste from participating in the two award categories where he was nominated. As a further assurance, our management undertakes to cooperate with the Nigerian Police Force to make certain all our good faith promises,” the statement read.

“Once again, we sincerely apologise to everyone, including all Portable fans who felt otherwise disappointed by our artist’s slips. We make no pretence and assume no justification for his actions, he is sull learning the age-lung ropes of the industry and it is only fair not to throw away the baby with the both water.”

Since he came into the limelight, Portable has been in the news for controversial reasons.

The Ogun state police command had on Monday invited him for allegedly asking his team to brutalise a young man.
