Davido has been awarded the honour “Outstanding Citizen” in the US state of Georgia.

The hitmaker took to Instagram to share a copy of the official declaration.

Davido shared a video of himself at the US state of Georgia’s legislative chamber.

Clad in a black suit, the singer was introduced to the assembly while he showed off his certificate.

The certificate reads that the 31-year-old has been honoured as an “Outstanding Georgia Citizen”.

Brad Raffensperger, secretary of state of the State of Georgia, said the honour will grant Davido every courtesy as a “Goodwill Ambassador” from Georgia to other states and nations beyond the borders of the US”.

The secretary of state also affixed his seal of office on the certificate.

“I, Brad Raffensperger, Secretary of State of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim David Adedeji Adeleke as an Outstanding Georgia Citizen,” the certificate reads in part.

“May this Outstanding Citizen be afforded every courtesy as a Goodwill Ambassador from Georgia in his travels to other states, to nations beyond the borders of the United States of America, or wherever he may hereafter travel.”

The recognition given to Davido is awarded based on advocacy and goodwill contributions to the state of Georgia.

Davido was born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in Lagos.

Before relocating to Nigeria to attend a tertiary institution, he had his high school education in the US.

Last week, Andre Dickens, the Mayor of Atlanta, declared November 18 “Davido Day”.

The recognition celebrates Davido’s contribution to the city’s entertainment development.

With multiple awards to his name, Davido is considered one of the prominent individuals in African music.

On November 10, the singer secured three nominations for the 2024 Grammy Awards.
