‘Love Nwantiti‘, the hit song by CKay, has topped the inaugural list of Billboard’s first-ever Afrobeats music chart in the United States.
The debut edition of the chart ranks top 50 most popular Afrobeats songs in the United States from March 29 to April 2.
The remix of ‘Peru’ by Fireboy and Ed Sheeran took the second spot on the list while Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ remix featuring Justin Bieber and Tems came third.
‘Attention’, the collaborative song by Omah Lay and Justin Bieber took the fourth spot on the chart with ‘Free Mind’ by Tems completing the top five.
Billboard had earlier announced that the music chart would be done based on a weighted formula.
This, it said, will incorporate official streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of leading audio and video music services as well as download sales from top music retailers.
Obi Asika, Afro Nation founder, said the initiative was informed by the growing influence of the Afrobeats in the global music landscape.
“The last decade has seen Afrobeats explode into a worldwide phenomenon, influencing culture and fashion across the globe and I am humbled to have made a contribution to growing the genre alongside many talented, passionate people,” he had said.
