Fireboy, Sho Majozi and Sauti Sol have been enlisted for the 2021 edition of YouTube Music’s African Month.
In a statement sent to TheCable Lifestyle, the company said the trio will deliver live performances of their most popular hits, which fans can enjoy via livestream on each of the artistes’ YouTube channels.
Alex Okosi, managing director of EMEA Emerging Markets, said the initiative is aimed at further shooting African music into international limelight.
“For more than a decade now, YouTube has helped artists develop and export the African sound to music lovers, fans and listeners worldwide while also enabling collaborations across the continent and around the world,” Okosi said.
“As a result, it’s only natural that the platform, where cultural movements grow and build, plays a central role in the celebration of this important month for the continent as a whole. The past ten years have shown, without a doubt, that Africa loves YouTube and YouTube has found a true home in Africa.”
According to the statement, Sho Majozi performed on Wednesday while Sauti Sol and Fireboy are to perform between Thursday and Friday in the event that is held virtually.
Part of the week-long event also include an industry panel sessions focused on African Music to be hosted by Leading Ladies Africa.
It added that the activities would culminate in the 2021 Africa Day concert scheduled for May 25.
This year’s edition of the concert will be hosted by Idris Elba, British movie star.
