The sequel to ‘Chief Daddy’, a 2018 comedy-drama produced by Mo Abudu, has been set for a 2021 premiere as a global exclusive to Netflix, American streaming platform.
Abudu, a renowned media mogul, took to her social media handles to break the news on Thursday while naming Niyi Akinmolayan as one of the executives involved in the project, which she hinted is now the works.
“I did promise you loads of exciting announcements in July, and in keeping with that promise, I have one more announcement to make before we end July,” the film producer wrote.
“It’s exclusive to Netflix globally and will be coming to you in 2021. Remember our star-studded cast, they are all super excited about bringing you the sequel.”
‘Chief Daddy’ follows a billionaire industrialist who dies after serving as a benefactor to an extended family of relatives, household staff, and mistresses but his will creates a saga amongst his families.

Netflix had partnered Abudu, who also doubles the founder of the Ebony Life TV, for the film adaptation of books by Wole Soyinka, a Nigerian playwright, and Lola Shoneyin, a novelist.
Aside from the two projects, the streaming giant had further revealed that Abudu would “produce two new Nigerian Originals plus licensed films and a series” for the film production brand.
“I’ve been fortunate to experience how African content can travel and this investment by Netflix is going to help grow the African creative industry and get our stories out there,” Abudu once said.
“We can only continue to rise and do better with how we tell our stories to those who are receiving it. This step Netflix is taking is going to help grow the industry and get our stories out there.”
