Headies 2018: Simi, Davido, Wizkid grab lion’s share of nominations

The artistes with the lion’s share of nominations for the 2018 edition of the Headies are arguably the most successful during the period under review.

This year, songbird Simi, Wizkid, and Davido are the top contenders.

Simi

The songbird who makes everyone want to fall in love bagged seven nominations. The commercial and critical success of her eponymous album put her in the circle of the top contenders.

2. Best R&B/Pop Album  – ‘Simisola’
3. Best R&B single – ‘Smile for Me’
4. Best Collabo – ‘No Forget’ (ft. Simi) by Adekunle Gold
5. Best Vocal Performance (female) – ‘Gone For Good’
6. Album of the Year – ‘Simisola’
7. Artiste of the Year

Wizkid

Putting Nigeria on the international music stage with a consistent track record, the Starboy comes in with nine nominations.

1. Best Reggae/Dancehall single – ‘Come Closer’
2. Best R&B/Pop album – ‘Sounds From The Other Side’
3. Best music video ‘Come Closer’ (Daps) and ‘Malo’ (ft. Wizkid) by Tiwa Savage (Meji Alabi)
4. Best Collabo ‘Malo’ (ft. Wizkid) by Tiwa Savage and ‘Come Closer’ (ft. Drake)

Davido 

With his 2017 streak of back to back hits, it’s no surprise Davido is a top contender for the Headies Awards with six nominations.
