Uzodinma Iweala, author of Beasts Of No Nation, will have his new effort Speak No Evil released in March 2018 by Harper Books.
Harping on the book in an Instagram post, the writer who also runs Ventures Africa said: “I won’t say much, just that it’s very relevant to everything that is currently happening.”
Speak No Evil is centered around Niru, a Harvard-bound bright son of Nigerian parents who is queer, and his best friend Meredith, the daughter of prominent Washington insiders, who is the only person aware of his sexuality.
Publishers of the upcoming project, Harper Books, said: “We are so excited to be publishing Uzodinma Iweala’s second novel after his critically acclaimed debut #BeastsofNoNation. Look out for #SpeakNoEvil, on sale March 2018.”
His critically acclaimed debut, which was adapted into a Netflix film in 2015, was written in 2005.
Iweala said he was inspired to write about child soldiers after reading an article on the conflict in Sierra Leone while in high school and many years later, meeting a former Ugandan child soldier in Harvard.
He has also authored Our Kind of People, a non-fiction account of the HIV/AIDS epidemic which was released in 2012.
Earlier this year, he premiered Waiting for Hassana, a short film based on the abducted Chibok girls.
Iweala is the son of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, world renowned economist and Nigeria’s former minister of finance.
