The Ogun state police command has arrested Ikenna James, a 23-year-old man, for allegedly raping and and killing Oluwatosin Adefisayo, a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, the command’s spokesman, confirmed the incident to journalists in Abeokuta on Thursday.

According to him, James and Adefisayo lived in the same compound in Ogijo, Sagamu LGA of the state.

The police spokesman said James and his friend, who is currently on the run, broke into the 29-year-old’s room while she was asleep at night and allegedly raped her in the process.

“On interrogation, Ikenna James whose partner in crime has ran away confessed to the commission of the crime, he also informed the police that they decided to kill the victim after raping her because they discovered that she recognized them,” he said.

Opeyemi said Ikenna’s parents described him as the “black sheep of the family” and hailed his arrest by the command.

He disclosed that Lanre Bankole, the commissioner of police, had already ordered immediate transfer of the suspect to homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further probe.

He said Bankole also directed the arrest of the suspect’s alleged accomplice and ensure justice is served in the case.
