Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2baba, says Davido, Tekno and Wizkid are “pushing boundaries” and taking Nigerian music to the next level.
He said the trio and some other artistes are achieving feats previously deemed impossible by African artistes.
When asked to name present day trailblazers in an interview with Soundcity TV, he said: “There are so many of them, but to mention a few, Wizkid, Davido, Tekno… Like I said, a few.”
“These guys are pushing boundaries and making things happen. The next generation always has to carry the baton and take it to the next level, I am really proud of these guys.”
2baba was also asked if he had ever considered going into politics, he responded saying politics has never been his cup of tea.
The music icon also spoke about the inspiration behind his latest single ‘Holy Holy’.
“A whole lot of things as matter of fact, but basically, the subject of the song tell you exactly about people who think they are better than everybody, always having negative thoughts rather those positive ones, people that never take responsibility for where they are,” he said.
The interviewer, Moet Abebe, told 2baba that his fans were curious to know if he was ever going to make peace with Blackface.
The singer responded saying he did not want to talk about the protracted rift between himself and his former Plantashun Boiz band mate.
2baba also explained the reason why he eventually settled down with actress Annie Idibia after having children with different women.
“I was just deceiving myself,” he said. “At some point in my life, I just started realising this is who I wanted to be with, who I actually want to spend my life with; this is the only person that does it for me.”
