‘Essence’, the hit song by Wizkid, Afrobeats star, has climbed to number 59 on Billboard Hot 100 chart.

In July, the song, which featured Tems, had debuted on the highly coveted US music chart at number 82.

It had also become the first Nigerian song to crack the chart and doubled as the third in the entire African continent.

‘Essence’, over the space of four weeks, then jumped by 23 spots on the Billboard Hot 100 to peak at 59th place.

The R&B hit song is the 11th track of ‘Made In Lagos’ (MIL), Wizkid’s fourth studio album, which was released in October 2020.

Barack Obama, the former president of the United States, had listed the hit song among his favourite for 2020.

The 14-track project featured global heavyweights like Damian Marley, Skepta, H.E.R, and Ella Mai alongside Burna Boy.

Wizkid, aged 31, has continued to put the Afrobeats movement in the spotlight of the global music industry.

The hitmaker had recently sold out tickets to his November concert at London’s 20,000-capacity O2 Arena in 12 minutes.
