Mixed reactions have trailed the federal government’s suspension of the Ruga initiative it proposed to resolve the clashes between farmers and herdsmen.
Controversy had trailed the project since it was announced in June. While some governors welcomed it, others had said it could lead to more attacks on communities.
Following its suspension, Nigerians took to Twitter to register their various opinions as regarding the Ruga initiative.
While some applauded the federal government for listening to the cry of the masses, others expressed disgruntlement; demanding that the initiative be abolished and not suspended.
“We do not want you to suspend RUGA, we want you to CANCEL it! The suspension means you are postponing the evil day, cancel means it is NEVER coming back. If you want peace in this country RUGA must be CANCELLED and you must also CANCEL your Fulanisation and Islamisation policy,” one Twitter user said.
“RUGA suspension isn’t enough, that sh*t should be cancelled, abolished and forgotten and the N21Billion budgeted for it be invested in infrastructural development.” another user said.
Here is what some Nigerians had to say:
We do not want you to suspend RUGA, we want you to CANCEL it! Suspension means you are postponing the evil day, cancel means it is NEVER coming back.
If you want peace in this country RUGA must be CANCELLED and you must also CANCEL your Fulanisation and Islamisation policy.

We must be reasonable enough not to be carried away with their abrupt suspension of the satanic RUGA
AdvertisementAfter all, the herders who roam their cows along our streets are not even Nigerians. They should go back to MALI and FUTA JALON where they came from. https://t.co/m3v4G7suXq

I feel the suspension of RUGA is for a reason.
The presidency wants Nigerians to be engrossed in Big Brother so that they can re introduce it and implement it without stress.
Now the internet is hot.
Mark my words, they will bring back this issue in some weeks' time.

Hello Tweeps,
Let's be vigilant. The battle for the TOTAL REJECTION OF #RUGA is not yet over.
👉🏻 SUSPENSION does not mean TERMINATION.
We must continue to resist anything and everything #RUGA, irrespective of what name that may be given to it.
Think Nigeria

The suspension of the Ruga program is defusing a Landmine.

FG suspension of the controversial RUGA settlement program under the National Livestock settlement Program is a very welcome development and a masterstroke to douse simmering tension that has festered social dislocation across board in the Nigerian project. A stitch in time perse

Dear People of Benue,Nassarawa & Taraba be vigilant…..with the purported 'suspension' of RUGA they would want to unleash mayhem on vulnerable communities to claim 'we-told-you-that-RUGA-was-the-only-solution-to-herders'-mayhem'.they are as predictable as that!

Nigerians should not rejoice yet, but be vigilant.
SUSPENSION is not the same as CANCELLATION
The FG may re-introduce the evil agenda (RUGA) in another version with another deceitful name.
