Ayra Star, a fast-rising Nigerian singer, has come through with the visuals for ‘DITR’, a track off her debut eponymous extended play (EP).
The 19-year-old songwriter announced the release of the much-awaited music video on her Twitter page on Wednesday.
‘DITR’, which means ‘Diamond in the Rough’, examines the difficult but refining paths young people thread on before attaining adulthood.
The less-than-four-minute video, directed by Afolabi Olalekan, portrays the life of a young but impressionable lady, who is overwhelmed with peer pressure, thereby submitting to illicit attitudes such as smoking, excessive drinking of alcohol, and prostitution.
The singer achieves her aim of simply painting a tumultuous lifestyle that cuts across the gender spectrum but typical of the new generation – Gen Z.
Ayra released her debut EP in January 2021 — at about the same time she was officially unveiled as a new act signed to Mavin Records by Don Jazzy, Nigerian producer.
