Victory Gbakara has won the 2023 Nigerian Idol, the local version of the Idol series franchise.
Gbakara was crowned winner of the eighth edition of the talent hunt reality television show on Sunday night after defeating Precious Mac in the final.
The winner of this season’s edition will get N100 million grand prize, part of which is N35 million in cash.
Gbakara will also get a music record deal and a video shoot.
The show finale on Sunday night began with a group performance from all the contestants alongside the judges.
D’banj, Simi and Obi Asika led the chorus of ‘Hall of Fame’, a 2014 song by the Star of Copenhagen, Switzerland.
Speaking shortly after winning this year’s Nigerian Idol, Gbakara appreciated his fans for their support, adding that they made his victory possible.
“I don’t know what to say. But I want to say thank you. You made this happen,” he said.
“Thank you all so much. I love you. Thank you for making my dream come true.”
He then wrapped up his speech with a beautiful performance of Wizkid’s ‘Blessed’.
The 2023 edition, hosted by IK Osakioduwa, premiered in April.
The live show aired for eight weeks — from April 23 to July 16.
