Tems, the Grammy winner, has alleged that she received death threats over rumoured pregnancy for American rapper Future.

In September, the songstress fuelled pregnancy rumours after she was spotted at Burberry’s Spring/Summer 2023 London Fashion Week show, rocking a black dress with a purple fluffy coat and matching heels.

Some social media users suggested she was concealing a baby bump. Others even speculated about Future being the father.

The singer, however, dismissed the speculations.

Revisiting the rumours in a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM, Lagos, Tems said several people flooded her DMs to send her threatening messages.

The Oscar-nominated singer also said some even questioned her choice to allow Future to “allegedly impregnate” her.

Tems said she has never met the rapper, despite working with him on the hit song ‘Wait For U’ alongside Drake.

“When I heard that I was pregnant, I did not actually think anybody believed it,” she said.

“I did not know it was serious until I started getting messages like death threats, like, ‘How dare you? Of all the people in the world, Future, really?’ And I have never met him in my life. So it’s crazy.”

Born Temilade Openiyi, Tems gained global recognition in 2020, courtesy of her collaboration with Wizkid on the song ‘Essence’.

In February, the songstress won her first-ever Grammy award.

She bagged the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category for her role in ‘Wait for U’.

She was recently honoured by TIME magazine and listed among their top 100 for 2023.

In August, Tems opened up about the reason she ditched Afrobeats for R&B.

She said Afrobeats was not giving her the type of “spiritual stimulation” she wanted.

She added that she “was prepared to die” for her belief and stick with R&B.
