Apaokagi Maryam, Nigerian online comedienne, better known has Taaooma, has called on fans to appreciate the individual uniqueness between her and Gloria ‘Maraji’ Oloruntobi, a comedy skit sensation, rather than compare them.
The social media celebrity disclosed this when she featured on Rubbin’ Minds, a Channels Television programme, with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu as the host.
She spoke about the alleged rivalry between her and Maraji while also reflecting on her foray into comedy skit making.
The graduate of tourism and travel services management from Kwara State University said she has always tried to distance herself from comparison with Maraji.
Taaooma added that her foray into spotlight does not mean that the Edo-born internet sensation is no longer doing well.
“I do see such comparisons on social media but I try to ignore,” she said.
“Sometimes I feel like replying but on a second thought, I ask myself how many people do I want to talk to that people are unique in their own ways.
“Just because I came out doesn’t mean she is not doing well again or something. But then I just try to ignore because I see some people trying to make me talk so that when I do, they come back to me for backlash.”
She also talked about her first experience with Maraji, saying it didn’t go as expected.
Taaooma, however, stressed that she would love to work with her if the opportunity arises.
“I chatted with her once, but she didn’t really give me that opportunity to get close but I would really love to if she gives me the chance,” she said.
She went on to dismiss claims that her comedy skits — which dwell majorly on African concept of motherhood — promote child abuse, enjoining people to focus more on the entertainment side of her works.
