Enoch Adeboye, general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has sparked reactions on social media over his counsel on marriage.

The cleric had taken to Twitter to urge his “sons” to refrain from marrying ladies who can’t cook or do chores.

“My sons, don’t marry a lady who can’t cook. She needs to know how to do chores and cook because you can’t afford to be eating out all the time,” he wrote on Monday.

Adeboye’s counsel, however, did not go down well with some celebrities who stated that “women are more than cooks and maidservants”.

It also unleashed a floodgate of different reactions amid arguments on social media platforms where some Nigerians registered their opinions on the matter.

While a number of users agreed with the cleric’s assertions, others tackled Toke, arguing that someone who “failed in marriage” should not be offering advice on the subject.

“Pastor Adeboye has been married for 52yrs & you should listen to him when he gives advice on marriage, yes? But no you choose to listen to Aunty Toke Makinwa who was divorced just 2yrs into her marriage! Don’t you see that something is wrong with you,” a Twitter user wrote.

“Any lady you see dragging Pastor Adeboye, just quietly note that she can cook nothing! Set Awon ‘I can cook Noodles’,” said a user.

“Pastor Adeboye spoke to we His children about the kind of wife we should marry. Neighbours children are complaining. If He is your father, you’d listen, if He is not, pls face your own father. It’s stupid to eavesdrop my father’s instructions to me and counter,” another user said.

Here is what some Nigerians had to say:
