A$AP Rocky, American rapper and record producer, has been found guilty of assault by a Swedish court but will face no prison time.
The 30-year-old artiste was recently released from prison following his arrest after he and Bladimir Corniel and David Rispers, two of his entourage, were involved in a Stockholm fight.
In its ruling on Wednesday, the court rejected the performer’s claim that the trio had been acting in self-defense.
“Based on statements from two witnesses, the court finds that the defendants were not subject to a current or imminent criminal attack,” said the ruling.
“Therefore, they were not in a situation where they were entitled to use violence in self-defense. Nor could they have perceived themselves to be in such a situation.”
Rocky was given a suspended prison sentence.
This verdict implies that Rocky does not go to jail right away but would undergo a period of probation during which he must comply with certain preset conditions given by the court.
The court directed that he pays damages of 12,500 Swedish Krona (close to $1,300) to the victim “for violation of his integrity and pain and suffering.”
The defendants were also ordered to pay fees of 80,610 Swedish Krona (nearly $8,400) for the victim’s lawyer.
“The assault has not been of such a serious nature that a prison sentence must be chosen. The defendants are therefore sentenced to conditional sentences,” Per Lennerbrant, presiding judge, said after the verdict was delivered.
