The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the commencement of 39 postgraduate (PG) programmes and 16 additional undergraduate courses at the Sokoto State University.
According to NAN, the 39 postgraduate programmes cover diplomas, Masters and PhDs in different disciplines.
The 16 undergraduate courses cut across such fields as education, language, and the social sciences.
Zayyanu Shehu, the variety’ PRO, in a statement on Saturday, said Sani Dangoggo, the VC, confirmed the development following a verification visit by the NUC to the institution.
He said the NUC conveyed its approval in a letter dated November 8 and signed by Noel Saliu, its director of academic planning, on behalf of Abubakar Rasheed, its executive secretary.
Shehu said that the commencement of PG programmes by the university is with effect from the 2021/2022 academic session.
Established in 2009, the Sokoto State University began academic activities in 2013.
At present, it offers 23 undergraduate programmes.
