Six UNILORIN students qualify for world university games in China

Six students of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) have qualified for the FISU World University Games in China.

NAN reports that Tajudeen Ibraheem, the varsity’s director of sport, announced the student-athletes in a memo addressed to Wahab Egbewole, the vice-chancellor.

The athletes are Musa Nurain, Latoya Alabi, Ruqayyah Mustapha, Fareedah Aderibigbe, Usman Afolabi, and Sofiat Obanishola.

The biennial event is aimed at expanding the role and reach of university sports around the world through the potential of student-athletes.

The forthcoming edition is scheduled to hold between July 28 and August 8.

Ibraheem said the six athletes were among the 12 students that participated in the trial hosted by the University of Benin (UNIBEN) between May 8 and May 14.

At the trial held in Benin City, Nurain, a student of the department of educational technology, won two gold medals in the 100m and 200m races.

Alabi and Mustapha also clinched gold medals in the javelins throw and the discus throw respectively.

In the same vein, Aderibigbe from department of English snagged a gold medal in taekwondo (Batan 53KG).

On their part, Afolabi of the department of human kinetics education earned his qualification in badminton (male category) while Obanishola made the female category list.

Commenting on the feat, the director of sports thanked the vice-chancellor and his entire management team for the support the athletes and officials received before and during the trial competition in Benin City.
