Simi, the Nigerian songwriter, says she never intended to marry a musician.
The 35-year-old songstress opened up about how she met Adekunle Gold, her husband, on the latest episode of the ‘Tea With Tay’ podcast.
Simi said she first thought Gold was only a fan who had been waiting to connect with her on Facebook.
She added that she met her husband as a graphics designer and never knew “he was singing”.
“When I first met my husband, I did not know he was singing. Because I already said I cannot marry a singer. He used to do this King of Photoshop. I have never heard him sing up till that time. I think he was even a fan,” she said.
“He had sent me a message on Facebook. I never saw it. I still have not replied. I sensed that it was him that would be good for me.”
Simi got married to Gold in 2019 and the two have since then continued to enjoy positive reception in the music industry.
The celebrity couple collaborated on a project titled ‘Promise‘ in January 2019 — shortly after their wedding.
They also partnered for an array of songs like ‘No Forget’ (2017), ‘Take Me Back’ (2017), ‘By You’ (2019), ‘Bite The Dust’ (2020), and ‘Balance’ (2022).
Simi was also featured on Gold’s latest album ‘Tequila Ever After’ where they combined for the ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ track.
